Foreign Visitors Explore Gangcheng: An Immersive Experience of Rural Revitalization

 “Wenyuan's peaches are so delicious! It's very good!” On September 6, Gangcheng District hosted the “Foreigners Explore Gangcheng: Experiencing Rural Revitalization” event. Eleven international students visited places like Xinzhuang Subdistrict, Lixin Subdistrict, and Wenyuan Subdistrict, where they had a hands-on experience with traditional activities such as Panlong Bangzi opera, moxa stick making, and peach picking, while discovering the unique charm of rural revitalization.

The group visited Xiachen Village in Xinzhuang Subdistrict, one of the key sites for the Quanyun Rural Living Qilu Model Project. At the Panlong Bangzi Heritage Hall, they were fascinated by the historically rich costumes on display. Han Ke, head of the Panlong Bangzi troupe, taught them a few lines from the opera, and everyone practiced earnestly. “Once I learn this, I’ll sing it for my friends back home, so they can experience the charm of Chinese traditional culture,” said Deng Emmanuel Agoth Akol from South Sudan.

In Qiaodian Village, the visitors toured the village’s industries, learned about the operation of the Happiness Canteen, and admired the beautiful countryside. They were full of praise for Gangcheng's rural revitalization efforts. “I never imagined that the elderly here could have a full meal for just 3 yuan. It’s really surprising. The village scenery is also beautiful. I can’t wait to show my friends the photos I’ve taken,” said Yollanda Mukombe from Zimbabwe.

At the moxa processing base in the Shandong Qishan Aixiang Rural Complex in Lixin Subdistrict, the group tried their hand at making moxa sticks. With the help of staff, they quickly finished making them. The staff also demonstrated how to use moxa sticks and explained their health benefits. “Chinese culture is so profound! I had no idea this little moxa stick could have so many uses. It’s amazing,” said Adansoke Setondji Vianney from Benin.

After making the moxa sticks, the group headed to Beijinshuihe Village in Wenyuan Subdistrict to enjoy peach picking. “These honey peaches are so sweet and crisp! I love them!” said Zame Dadouo Audrey Olivia from Ivory Coast, as she busily picked and tasted peaches in the orchard.

By the end of the afternoon, the international visitors had gained a lot from their experience. Many expressed that they couldn’t wait to share their experience with others back home and encourage more people to visit, learn about, and fall in love with Gangcheng.
